Gläserner Fels auf dem Loreley Plateau

Loreley 7, 56348 Bornich

After the landscape planning elements of the cultural and landscape park have already been implemented by the association community of Loreley, the realization of the concept for the cultural staging of the Loreley myth has recently begun. A highlight is the "Glass Rock" directly at the top of the Loreley plateau. The new architectural feature on the Loreley refers to the poem by Heinrich Heine, which states “….The air is cool and it darkens, and the Rhine flows calmly; the peak of the mountain sparkles in the evening sun… ”

The Lorelei Rock is one of the most distinctive locations and an integral part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley. An internationally renowned place that attracts many visitors due to its connection to German Rhine Romanticism.

The redesign of the Lorelei Plateau aims to highlight the world-famous identification point accordingly.

After the landscape planning elements of the Cultural and Landscape Park have already been implemented by the Verbandsgemeinde Loreley, the realization of the concept for the cultural staging of the myth of Lorelei has recently begun. A highlight is the "Gläserner Fels" (Glass Rock) located directly at the top of the Lorelei Plateau. The new architectural hallmark at Lorelei refers to the poem by Heinrich Heine, which states: "…The air is cool and it darkens, and the Rhine flows quietly; the summit of the mountain sparkles in the evening sun…"

To construct the highly demanding building structure, the South Tyrolean facade construction experts from FRENER & REIFER were brought on board, who are also responsible for the realization of the multifunctional stadium SAP Garden in the Olympic Park in Munich, as a globally active company.

The roof structure of the new Mythos Hall on the Lorelei, in the form of a stylized Glass Rock, is an irregular crystal and consists of over 100 triangular glass panes, which are laid on a space framework made of laser-welded primary and secondary beams in steel construction, connected by milled freeform nodes. The largest single glass pane has an edge length of up to 5 meters, with an area of 8 square meters. The total structure has a weight of approximately 50 tons.

The specialists from Brixen completed their work at the end of 2024. "Immediately thereafter, further installation of the exhibition inside the Mythos Hall will begin, where the Lorelei Rock will reveal its secret starting in the summer of 2025," said Mayor Mike Weiland.
