Katholische Kirche Sankt Bonifatius

Am Rebenhang 2, 65391 Lorchhausen

The church dedicated to St. Boniface was built between 1877 and 1879 near the abandoned predecessor building, a 14th century church that had become too small and was badly damaged by several fires.

The former Catholic parish church of St. Boniface is a listed church building in Lorchhausen, a district of the town of Lorch (Rheingau). It is now a branch church of the Heilig Kreuz Rheingau parish, a new type of parish. Since 2015, the so-called Rheingau Cathedral in Geisenheim has also been the parish church of Lorchhausen[1].

The stately neo-Gothic three-nave church made of unplastered local quarry stone and red sandstone with three bays and a five-bay choir rises above a cruciform ground plan. The roof is slate-covered. The building dominates the village. Inside, eight round sandstone pillars support the vault, creating a large, bright church interior.
