This gauge plays a crucial role in inland navigation, as ships can be loaded differently depending on the water height.
Measurements at Kaub began for the first time in 1856 using a staff gauge.
The gauge tower was inaugurated on May 18, 1905, with a recording gauge.
It has been electric since 1951.
