Loreley Statue on the Loreley Plateau

The Loreley. She has made our surroundings world-famous and a tourist attraction. Since spring 2023, there is a new Loreley sculpture on the Loreley Plateau. The 2.20 m tall statue was created by the Berlin sculptress Valerie Otte, whose design won a national realization competition with public participation among more than 50 competitors. Valerie Otte depicts the beautiful Loreley in a classical manner on a rocky pedestal, equipping her figure with several insignia of the Loreley story. Her flowing hair resembles a river. However, the artist emphasizes less the eerie danger that, according to legend, she represents for the sailors. In her own words, she seeks to show a "feminine perspective on the Loreley" - as a woman who mourns her beloved and is "deep in thought and lost in her own world."
