St. Hildegard Benedictine Abbey

Abtei St. Hildegard 1, 65385 Rüdesheim am Rhein

The Benedictine Abbey of St. Hildegard above the town of Rüdesheim am Rhein was built at the beginning of the last century.

The Benedictine Abbey of St. Hildegard above the town of Rüdesheim am Rhein was built at the beginning of the last century. It directly traces its roots to the time of Saint Hildegard of Bingen, who founded the "predecessor monastery" of Eibingen, which was resettled in 1165 and secularized in 1803. To this day, the Benedictine Sisters at St. Hildegard live according to rule set over 1400 years ago, based on the teachings of St. Benedict – love of God, humanity, joy in faith, and a realistic, pragmatic view of humankind. A large monastery shop, a vineyard, a spelt products distribution, a goldsmith, a ceramics workshop, and a restoration workshop for ecclesiastical archives form the economic foundations of the world-famous monastery. The abbey also offers guest rooms where individuals can seek quiet and reflection for a limited time behind the walls of St. Hildegard or participate in courses and seminars held by the Benedictine Sisters.

Information on accessibility: The monastery shop and the information area are accessible. The church is not accessible.
