Weingut Crass
Taunusstr. 2, 65346 Eltville-Erbach
What does a committed young winemaker do when he has learned enough and gained enough experience? He takes over the winery from his parents and joins the Rheingau wine elite full of zest for action.
The CRASS winery is located in the heart of the Rheingau, in Eltville-Erbach to be precise. The family has been involved in winegrowing for many generations, and Matthias Craß took over the reins in 2014. And immediately brought about some changes: the business moved to a larger estate in the neighborhood. People meet here and in the newly built vinotheque, and not just for wine tastings: since mid-2016, the winery has been running an estate restaurant within the historic walls and beautiful garden of the estate.
The winery cultivates around 7 ½ hectares of vines. Most of it is planted with Riesling and Pinot Noir, typical of the region. However, Pinot Gris and Gelber Muskateller - a specialty of the winery - are also cultivated. Matthias Craß likes to work with different grape varieties, so the CRASS winery has a wide range to offer. For some time now, this has also included Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot, and as the young winemaker cultivates and develops the grapes individually, the wines in the multi-layered range are precise and full of character.
