ADFC: Römertour(mit Besuch der Römerwelt)
In der Lach 1, 56567 Neuwied
After the Dragon Head Path was traversed on June 1st for UNESCO World Heritage Day, with a dozen stations of Roman evidence, the ROMAN TOUR once again focuses on August 2nd on the border fortifications of the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes, with its forts, watchtowers, walls, and palisades, which the former Roman superpower used to demarcate its empire from free Germania. The tour starts at 10 a.m. at the parking lot of the primary school In der Lach in Niederbieber, from where it goes along field and forest paths on the Limes cycle path over the heights in the direction of Arienheller to the Roman World. Here we will learn more about the everyday life of the stationed troops at the Limes and in the fort during a guided tour. We will also learn how life was shaped for the civilian population on both sides of the border wall and what contributed to the destruction of the Limes. The stay here will take about two hours and provide an opportunity for refreshments with coffee and Limes cake. Afterwards, we will go to the first watchtower WP 1 at the banks of the Rhine and from there return via the cycle path back to Neuwied. The costs for entry to the Roman World amount to 5 or 6 euros depending on status or number of people. The guided tour fee of 50 euros will be divided among the participants. Additional costs for refreshments are due to be paid individually. The total distance of the route is 38 km with 450 meters of elevation gain and mostly leads over paved paths as well as partially on well-maintained gravel surfaces. The tour is suitable for everyday bikes with gears, trekking, gravel, and mountain bikes as well as Pedelecs. Wearing a bicycle helmet is recommended.
