Festival der Currywurst und ChocolART
Engerser Landstraße 17, 56564 Neuwied
Currywurst meets ChocolART
a heavenly-sinful symbiosis
It’s all about the Currywurst. At Luisenplatz in the city, an unusually high number of Currywurst stalls are serving up the delicious calorie bomb. One can be curious about what spicy variations the vendors will come up with. On Sunday, the vendors of Neuwied invite you to a shopping Sunday from 1 PM to 6 PM.
Even star chefs have paid homage to the snack classic. How does one even come up with the idea of hosting a three-day festival for Currywurst? Admittedly, it’s a bit eccentric. But also quite successful. In 2007, the Currywurst festival attracted visitors in droves to Neuwied for the first time. At that time, it was still packaged with the loud and gesticulating performances of some market criers. This supporting program disappeared after a few years, but more and more Currywurst vendors were drawn to the festival.
The quirky idea, as well as the timing in January—when there is very little offered “open air”—were certainly reasons for the success. And not to forget: it was all about the sausage, to be precise, the Currywurst. And it seemingly has a kind of cult status. Over the years, the recipes have become more and more extravagant. Once Asian with cold peanut sauce, in a döner variant, in baguette with sauerkraut, or vegan creations with tofu and banana. For the particularly hardcore, there are ultra-spicy sauces, and of course, the classic preparation method is still very popular.
And for dessert, ChocolART takes care of things. Here you’ll find the most amazing chocolate creations. You know chocolate liqueurs, but do you also know chocolate beer or chocolate sparkling wine? Let yourself be surprised.
