Since the Middle Ages, a particle of the Holy Cross has been displayed for veneration in the parish on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.
The pilgrims were followed by the market traders - this is how the traditional Breisig ‘Zwibbelsmaat’ came into being.
Once again this year, around 150 traders line the streets of the town centre with their stalls alongside the Rhine promenade and the new paths in the Kurpark.
From sharpening stones for knives and woollen socks to broomsticks and onion sacks, you will find everything you could possibly need but rarely find in a normal shop.
In addition, a varied supporting programme including live music and walking acts invites visitors to linger in the spring town on the Rhine.
A Ferris wheel, the highlight of this year's onion market, will provide a fantastic view of the Rhine from a height of 24 metres from the Kurpark.
The journey at 4.30 pm is cancelled. The shuttle bus departs at 4.00 pm and then again at 6.00 pm.
