In the final, glittering stages of the golden 1920s, which are coming to an end, the early 1930s cast the first signs of the economic crisis and the threat of a shift to the right and the resulting Nazi dictatorship cast their shadows over the uncertain democracy. The 18-year-old typist Doris leaves her provincial home in the Rhineland to become a "glamour" in the pulsating life of Berlin. For her dream of love, luxury and a career, the cosmopolitan city with its inexhaustible supply of cinemas, theatres, dance palaces and promenades is the only destination that comes into question.
